Ghana sit bottom of Group C on zero points after defeats in Bouaké and at the Accra Sports Stadium. The price on a short favourite decides which market is worth a cedi.
Black Stars AFCON qualifiers after two rounds of Group C
The draw in Cairo on 19 May 2026 put Ghana in Group C with Côte d'Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia.
The Ghana Football Association published the windows the same week: Matchdays 1 and 2 between 21 September and 6 October 2026, Matchdays 3 and 4 between 9 and 17 November, and the last pair between 22 and 30 March 2027.
Matchday 1 was Côte d'Ivoire against Ghana at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on Thursday 24 September, 19:00 GMT. Malick Yalcouyé scored in the 44th minute and Franck Kessié added a second-half penalty. Ghana lost 2-0.
Matchday 2 was Ghana against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday 29 September, 16:00. Ernest Nuamah's penalty in the 27th minute and a Felix Afena-Gyan free kick put Ghana two up.
Mohamed Badamosi and Omar Colley levelled before the break, and Ebrima Colley scored in the 68th and 90th minutes. Ghana lost 4-2.
The table reads Côte d'Ivoire 6 points, The Gambia 6, Somalia 0, Ghana 0. Ghana's goal difference is minus four.
The November window and the Somalia double-header
Somalia play their home qualifiers in Ghana, and the National Sports Authority confirmed that both Ghana against Somalia and Somalia against Ghana are set for the Accra Sports Stadium. The GFA named Somalia as the November opponent on 16 October 2026 and put an interim technical team in charge of those fixtures.
Kim Lars Björkegren leads that team, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram as assistant coaches and Fatawu Dauda as goalkeepers coach. The arrangement covers the November fixtures only.
The last window, 22 to 30 March 2027, brings Côte d'Ivoire to Ghana and sends Ghana away to The Gambia. The finals run from 19 June to 17 July 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the first East African co-hosting.
Markets worth opening on a qualifier
The standard Ghanaian slip is 1X2, double chance, over or under 2.5 goals and both teams to score.
Against a side that has also lost both openers, the home 1X2 price sits short. The welcome rollovers at 22Bet and Paripesa count only legs at 1.40 or better, so a home win below that mark fails the test.
That pushes a punter toward the goal markets and the handicap. Here the sums are worked at illustrative prices, not quotes from any brand. GH₵50 on a home win at 1.25 returns GH₵62.50. The same GH₵50 on a minus-one handicap at 1.80 returns GH₵90, and on over 2.5 goals at 1.90 it returns GH₵95.
The two Somalia games are separate events, priced separately.
The first result moves the price of the second, so a slip that joins both games on one ticket is settled only after the second final whistle. The GPL post covers how late a domestic fixture gets its price; a Black Stars qualifier is priced earlier, with the squad list.
Nothing comes off a win. Act 1129 removed the 10% withholding on 2 April 2025, so GH₵90 reaches the MoMo wallet as GH₵90 once the Ghana Card check has passed.
Qualification maths and where to compare
Two teams go through from each of the 12 groups of four. Ghana are six points behind the top two with four matches left, so twelve points remain available and the two Accra games against Somalia carry half of them. Ties are split on head-to-head points first, then head-to-head goal difference.
The Ghana home page ranks the licensed brands with their Gaming Commission numbers; BetWinner, 22Bet, Melbet and 1xBet all price the qualifiers in cedis. The betting apps page puts side by side the builds, and the friendlies post explains why a lineup change moves a Black Stars price before kick-off.
Check the table on the CAF site the morning of the match, because a result elsewhere the night before changes what a draw is worth.
Questions about the Black Stars qualifiers
Can Ghana still qualify for AFCON 2027?
Two teams go through from each of the 12 groups. Ghana sit fourth in Group C on zero points after two rounds, six behind Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia, with four matches left: Somalia twice in November, then Côte d'Ivoire at home and The Gambia away in the 22 to 30 March 2027 window.
Who picks the Black Stars team for the Somalia games?
The Ghana Football Association announced on 16 October 2026 an interim technical team for the November fixtures only. Kim Lars Björkegren leads it, Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram are assistant coaches and Fatawu Dauda is goalkeepers coach. The search committee for a permanent head coach continues its work alongside them.
